FAQs
The Aloha Spirit
Is Tropics really Hawaiian-owned? Yes! Tropics was founded to bring the authentic Aloha Spirit from the islands to Morgantown, West Virginia. Our owners Brendan and Maria Burchfiel, Maria was born and raised in Hawaii, while Brendan moved there as a child when his father’s work with the CDC took the family to the islands and that heritage influences everything from our recipes to our hospitality.
What makes the food "Hawaiian Style"? Our menu features genuine island favorites you won’t find anywhere else in West Virginia, including Kalua Pork, Ahi Poke, and our famous Kal Bi Short Ribs. We balance sweet, salty, and savory flavors just like you’d find at a backyard lū’au in Oʻahu.
Dining & Drinks
What is a "Mai Tai" like at Tropics? Our signature Mai Tai follows traditional island recipes—strong, refreshing, and topped with our signature dark rum float. It’s a vacation in a glass at our Hawaiian restaurant in Morgantown, WV.
Do you offer traditional Hawaiian plate lunches? We do! Many of our entrees are served in the classic plate lunch style with "two scoops rice" and our house-made Hawaiian macaroni salad.
